Assoc Prof Pencho Kolev MD, PhD

He completed his higher education in medicine in 1977 at the Medical Academy, Sofia. During the period 1984 – 1989 he specialized in neurophysiology and psychophysiology in the Neurophysiology and Psychophysiology Section at the Central Institute of Occupational Medicine, Berlin, Germany, and in 2003 he had specialized training in headache and epilepsy at the University Hospital for Neurology, Pavia, Italy. He obtained a PhD degree defending a thesis on the topic Analysis of Neuropsychological Activity in Professions Related to Sound Control in 1987. In 2000 he was elected an associate professor and he conducts training courses for students and doctors of neurology and clinical neurophysiology, certificates for highly specialized activity in Clinical Electroencephalography, Evoked Potentials, Polysomnography, Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Specialist neurologist since 2009. From 2001 to the present, he has been the head of the ward in Clinical Neurophysiology at St. Naum Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment in Neurology, Sofia, associate professor at the Department of Neurology, Medical University, Sofia. He has over 130 publications in Bulgarian and international neurological and neurophysiological journals, textbooks and books. Assoc. Prof. Kolev has participated in numerous national and international symposia, conferences and congresses. Member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Society of Neurology, Member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Society of Epilepsy, Bulgarian Society of Headache, Sleep Medicine, Bulgarian Association of Clinical EMG and Evoked Potentials, International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), International Ligue against Epilepsy, International Organization of Clinical Neurophysiology. Special interests in epilepsy, headache, pain, sleep disorder, sleep apnea, clinical electroencephalography, video EEG, evoked potentials, transcranial magnetic stimulation.
